NFL Betting

NFL Betting is the most popular form of wagering, hence it is the most difficult to beat week in and week out. Just like in college football most casual football fans can pick the winners straight up, but have trouble beating the bookmaker with those picks against the NFL point spread. For those of you who don’t know the basics of NFL betting we have done our best to outline the process the below.

All sports that use a numbered spread offer 3 main ways for you to place a wager. Those 3 ways are betting against the spread, betting on the total, and the money line. This page will focus on NFL betting against the NFL point spread. To illustrate this more we have listed an imaginary NFL point spread below. If the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers were scheduled to play the line would look similar to this.

Chicago +3.5
Green Bay -3.5

For those who have been betting NFL before this season, this is a very easy line to read, but for those novice bettors you may be puzzled as to what this spread means. Don’t worry we will explain how this works. If you wanted to place a bet on Chicago you would receive an extra 3.5 points for the full game and are essentially starting off the game ahead by 3.5 points. For those that wanted to bet on Green Bay you would be essentially trailing by 3.5 points at the beginning of the game.

Once the game is over figuring out which team covered the NFL point spread is very straightforward. Everyone that placed a wager on Chicago would be winners if Chicago was to beat Green Bay straight up or if Green Bay wins by 3 points or less. For you Green Bay bettors you would need the Packers to win by at least 4 points or more for your bet to be a winner. That pretty much sums up NFL betting against the point spread.

Like we said at the top NFL betting is the most popular sport to bet on and bookmakers and sportsbooks know this and they put the most effort into the nfl point spread more than any other sport.
