| With the sports betting and handicapping industry
at all time high, con men have never seen an easier time than now
to take advantage of the inexperienced public beliefs. One of the
ways this happens is though a certain phrase called "lock".
A lock defined is a can't lose bet, or a selection that has a 100%
probability of winning against the point spread. In other words
a lock is a fictional concept that is used by scamdicappers to bait
uninformed bettors into purchasing their picks.
There are a few reasons why scamdicappers would use this term.
Some use it as a way to emphasize that they have a particularly
strong opinion on a game. Others use it as a way to create the impression
that they have inside information on a particular event, which the
public just eats up. The public has this notion that games are fixed
all the time and that handicappers have access to this information.
Scamdicappers and Touts use this misconception against the public
on a daily basis and make a pretty penny doing so. The funny thing
is, even if a game was fixed 100% odds of winning are still silly.
All you have to do is think back to the College basketball scandals
years back, where the players who took bribes, were often unable
to come through on the promised result.
The bottom line is there are just to many variables in sports for
any particular game to be a "lock" or a can't miss bet.
If you still believe locks exist, quite frankly you are a fool and
will never have the realistic expectations it takes to be a successful
sports bettor. Don't spend your life or sports betting career in
some fantasy world. Because in the end, believing in can't miss
picks is the same as believing in fictional characters like the
tooth fairy and the easter bunny.
